Please read the above discussion of condition for additional information about this razor. Here is a safety razor made right in the middle of the period when shaving was transitioning from the straight folding razor that had to be stropped, to the two-sided disposable blade safety razor that was used once and discarded. This razor has a one-sided caged razor blade that had to be stropped and sharpened every several shaves in order to keep it sharp. The day of the ubiquitous disposable razor blade was just dawning. The two-sided blade had made its appearance at the end of the 1800s. Note that this razor contains a stropping mechanism in the kit so that the blade could be stropped before each use. Keen Kutter received permission to use its logo trade mark on this product in about 1904 and received its patent in 1905. The component parts of this razor either indicate a patent pending mark or no mark other than the logo. It was therefore made before 1907. The catalogues for Keen Kutter do not show this razor until 1904. It's rare to find a Keen Kutter boxed set with the stropping mechanism, especially the strop Please see our photos. Not only are they a vital part of the description, they are of the actual razor set you will receive. We gladly answer questions and/or supply additional photographs.
